Itinerary

Full Itinerary
Day 1

Cusco | Chinchero - Maras Moray Salt Mines - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes.

We have to leave Cusco city early at 07:30 am, and we will first collect you from your hotel within the city center. And drive to the picturesque town of Chinchero, a beautiful Inca village where the Spanish used the original Inca street layout and foundations. Here we will visit a local family at Chinchero town where you will be given a demonstration of the Andean textiles passed down to all of them from generations since Inca times. You also will have the opportunity to shop from the local families.

As we continue on our way to our next site, we will pass through lush agricultural fields and small rural communities with spectacular views of snow-capped peaks. Our next stop is Moray and its spectacular terraces of concentric rings, which has been proven to be an experimental center for understanding the various climates and temperatures of different crops or agricultural plants, perhaps even used for the domestication of mixed vegetables. After exploring Moray, we will descend lower in elevation to the salt mines of Maras, a vital production center dating back to pre-Inca times. Here are over 5000 salt pools carved into the mountainside, filled daily by water seeping from the Earth, what we call the tears of Mother Earth!

We will continue briefly in Urubamba for a well-deserved lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the impressive Inca site of Ollantaytambo, where your guide will give you essential information on the site.

At the end of the tour, your guide will take you to the train station in Ollantaytambo. You will travel three unforgettable hours through the Sacred Valley until we arrive at Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) and spend the night in this town.

Day 2

Aguas Calientes | Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo – Return to Cusco

We will get to our final destination, and complete the whole Machu Picchu by train two days.

After taking your breakfast at 05:30 am, we leave this town and get the bus to Machu Picchu. The ride will take us around 20 minutes to get to the top of the hill.

The first impression of Machu Picchu is its fantastic location, which mixes very well with the whole nature. Very far away at the back, the Andean mountains and snow peaks. The entire view will take your breath away, that is for sure.

Once in Machu Picchu, your guide will introduce you to the beauty of Machu Picchu. You will head directly to a well sought-after location from where you will watch the sunrise and take photographs. Your guide will then guide you around the main sectors of the citadel, for a total of two hours. During this guided tour, you will learn some more about the history and culture of the Inca Empire.

At the end of the tour, you will have some time to yourself or, if you arranged to hike Huayna Picchu* (must be booked in advance, as it sells out and costs $25 per person), your guide will show you where to begin this hike, which will take no more than 2 hours round-trip.

Once you finish exploring the city or part of it, your guide will meet you in Aguas Calientes to have lunch and receive your train tickets back to Cusco. The return to Cusco takes about four hours with a bus transfer in Ollantaytambo to Cusco.
